Individualized and Affirming Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapy

Your first visit is focused on getting to know you, understanding your symptoms, and creating a treatment plan that feels comfortable and supportive.

During your appointment, we will:

• Review your medical history, symptoms, and goals

• Discuss concerns such as pelvic pain, bladder or bowel issues, pregnancy/postpartum recovery, painful intercourse, core weakness, or hip/back pain

• Assess posture, breathing patterns, mobility, strength, and movement

• Explain how the pelvic floor muscles function and how they may be contributing to your symptoms

An internal pelvic floor assessment may be recommended to evaluate muscle strength, coordination, tension, and tenderness. This exam is always optional, fully explained beforehand, and only performed with your consent. If you are not comfortable with an internal assessment, treatment can still be very effective using external techniques.

Our approach to pelvic floor therapy is individualized, evidence-based, and centered around your goals and comfort level. We believe pelvic health care should be collaborative, inclusive, and empowering.

Treatment may include:

• Education about the pelvic floor and how it relates to your symptoms

• Breathing, relaxation, and nervous system regulation techniques

• Strengthening or coordination exercises for the pelvic floor, core, hips, and surrounding muscles

• Manual therapy and soft tissue techniques

• Movement retraining and posture support

• Bladder, bowel, and lifestyle strategies

• Home exercises and self-management tools

We treat the whole person — not just the pelvic floor — because factors such as stress, movement patterns, posture, and daily habits can all impact pelvic health.

Every treatment plan is tailored to your specific needs, and all care is provided with informed consent, open communication, and respect for your identity and lived experience.

Nothing is ever required of you in the treatment room during sessions. We will have collaborative, shared decision making where you will be given as much information as possible about what is going on and what assessment and treatment options could be. From there, you make the decision on what would be the most helpful and accessible.

The length of pelvic floor therapy varies from person to person and depends on your symptoms, goals, medical history, and how long you have been experiencing concerns.

Some people notice improvement within a few visits, while others benefit from ongoing treatment over several weeks or months.
